| To know my dear friend
Hillary Crawl, was to love Hillary. Known as "Crawl Daddy",
or the "Hey Now" kid, his love for people crossed all
racial and cultural lines. Hillary was an icon in Southeasttexas,
and loved by thousands for his devotion to serving people.
He became very ill in
the early 90's, and needed a liver transplant. After much suffering,
and near brushes with death, God granted a blessing of a new liver.
His life was extended close to 11 years because another human being
pledged their remaining organs to be donated.
Please share in this
memorial and testimony to a true angel that walked the earth by
reading the information below and taking action to become an organ
donor.
Thank you & may God bless.

Information on Organ and Tissue
Donation
Organ Donation
- What organs can be donated? Heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, pancreas and small intestine.
- What is the number one organ most needed? Kidneys.
- There are currently over 85,000 people on the organ donor list waiting for lifesaving organ transplants.
- Out of about 2 million deaths every year about 12,000 to 14,000 are suitable for potential donation. Out of that 12-14,000 only 6,500 to 6,700 actually organ donors.
- The only way to become a potential organ donor is if imminent brain death has occurred. You must be on a ventilator and in an ICU unit.
- The only way to become an organ or tissue donor is by telling your family of your wishes to be an organ or tissue donor at a time of death! They will make that final decision.
- Every day in the United Stated at least 17 people die waiting for a suitable organ transplant.
Tissue Donation
- What tissues can be donated? Skin, bone, great saphnenous veins, corneas, heart valves, fascia, Achilles and patellar tendons and dura mater.
- What is the number one tissue in demand? Skin. It is used in the treatment of burn patients.
- There are no current statistics for the number of people on the waiting list for tissue. It is used every day in thousands of reconstructive and life saving surgeries across the United States.
- To be a tissue donor, the type of death can be either imminent brain death or cardiac death. Yes, if imminent brain death has occurred, you can be both an organ and tissue donor. One full donor can save and enhance up to 75 lives. And in some cases more.
- Are there age limits on donation? Yes there are, but each case is handled on an individual basis. Example: Someone who is 70 yrs. old may be able to become a full donor for tissue and someone who is 35 may not. It all depends on the health of the deceased at the time of death.
- If I chose to become a donor and my family agrees with my decision
at the time of my death, will the organ and tissue banks come in
and take everything? No, the family has the right to pick the suitable
organs and tissues that they want to donate. We work very closely
with the families at this difficult time. We give them a list of
the suitable organs and tissues and they have the right to give
consent for each one they choose.
